Anyone Else?

Anyone else giggle a little when their students are singing "God Bless the USA" and they get to the part when they're talking about their children and their wife?

Yeah, I giggle a little bit at that...on the inside of course.

Mr. Smith goes to Washington

I'm blogging this from a cell phone, so be patient with me. When Mr. Smith heard the phone this morning and recieved his first snow day since he moved to Virginia, he attempted to do a back flip (but instead wrenched his back and stepped on the cat). But since his brother-in-law had flown in from New Hampshire to attend the inauguration, Mr. Smith gets to go and be a part of history instead of talking about it. I'll try to put up some pictures later (and hopefully they won't be of just the back of people's heads).

Cheers!

OK, This is the REAL Official Inaugural First Blog Commencement

Here is where I would blog.  Blog, blog, blog about school and students and homework.  But right now I have nothing much to say.

Oh wait!  I could tell you that 4th grade Social Studies is traveling through time.  Yes, that's right, through time.  We've just finished tidying up our lessons on Jamestown, and will soon start learning about Colonial Economics; bartering, credit, debt, and whatnot.  We'll also learn about the cultural landscape of Virginia, with the early settlers coming to Virginia and where in Virginia they settled.  You may have heard of the English, Scots-Irish (not Scotch-Irish; that's a type of tape, and insulting to many a Scotsmen), German, African, and of course the Native Americans who were already here but were shuffled off their land (but we won't discuss that unpleasantness here).

So I guess I did have something to say.  Thanks for coming by.  Next time, bring some tea.

Here's your Official Fourth Grade Trivial Factoid Of The Blog:  Christopher Newport, leader of the first trip to Jamestown, lost his arm on the trip over (in a series of rather unfortunate events somewhere off the coast of Cuba).  Therefore, one could say he led the Jamestown voyage single-handedly.

Cheers!
